Time to Bag it

In class if the boys get a tad noisy I say, “Gentlemen” . Inevitably one of them will look up at me and say, “Start your engines?”
Well, “Ladies” start your engines because as of today August 29, 2010 there are only 118 sewing days left until Christmas. My two Berninas are going full tilt, so I thought it best to create a “Shopping Bag” to stash whatever OC creation I come up with this time……. So here goes…
I took the dimensions from a paper shopping bag, added interfacing to the bottom, straps and placket sewn to the lining to hold the straps. I made the straps longer than ones on the bag. I’m thinking next time I wouldn’t do that. I also had some of that plastic needle point canvass left over from the 80’s. I used it to reinforce the bottom, sewing it between the lining and main fabric. I also slipped some in along the top across the widest 2 sides.

Fait Accompli as the French would say.

Totally Sidetracked by my “New Stash”

Teddy Bears and Doll Quilts

Never having owned a stash of any girth, my sewing inspiration has always been pattern / idea driven…. Well it’s a new world order folks. I now, (thanks to Anne) have a stash of monumental proportions by my standards. I find myself pawing through the colors thinking…. Hmmmm this would make a nice_______________. Long story, but I needed to surprise someone with a baby gift et Voilà as the French would say….. Okay so I’m compulsive and had to make a few extra…..

I Really Don't have a Problem

Because I can stop making them at any time.....

Just to put what happened today in a little historical context…

So my husband and I were just in Germany and Austria for two weeks, and my only souvenir from all the fabric shops I managed to find, is the above 99 cent piece of trim (exhibit A) from Austria, 6 cookies from Nuremberg, and a souvenir thimble from the Eagle’s nest. (My husband bought that because he knew I wouldn’t spend the money for it)I guess I’m cheap; but I just can’t buy fabric unless it has a purpose. Notice my pathetic stash on hangers (exhibit B).
The phone rings today, Anne’s cleaning out her stash, can she bring some fabric over???? Unbelievable

Thanks Anne, I don’t even know where to start…… To Be Continued……

I’ve been whisked away by my new love…

Quilting has definitely taken a back seat ever since my reading went digital. I’ve struggled with massive eye floaters for a few years, and came very close to giving up my other passion, reading. Enter Stage Left the Sony Reader. I’m in love!!! Font the size of a teleprompter, thousands and thousands of free titles from Google books and library databases, and the Sony E store for all the rest (at about $10 a book). I did manage to make another “Who shot the Couch bag”, and a Sears Catalogue focus fabric bag to carry the reader. Now I need to get back to the Count of Monte Cristo…….Gérard de Villefort’s father just showed up.

Seems I'm Behind the 8 Ball As My Dad Use to Say

In purseland it's been Christmas in July ever since a dear friend surprised me with this lovely Christmas mat for my birthday. A chain reaction was set off, causing a dig through my Christmas stash and the fabrication of two new purses, but who knew my fascination with what I thought to be a "new fangled snapping mechanism" was at least 6 years old. Out of town company over the weekend set me straight on that one, then again they had no clue what the above contraption was. So, I guess all knowledge is relative.
